The field hockey team has always been one of the stronger programs at PAX. Starting in August, they grew every day and continued to get better with each practice, allowing them to dominate the season. This team ended their season with a record of 12-3 including two incredible wins during the regular season. Patuxent and Huntingtown have always been two clashing teams because the game between them ultimately decides which team plays in the SMAC Championship. This year, the Panthers came on top 2-1. Surprisingly, this game did not go into overtime like the three years prior. Another recognizable game was Patuxent against Chopticon. The game ended in a 5-0 win for the Panthers, but the game was close for over half of the time. Even though Patuxent dominated the entire time and had an incredible number of shots, Chopticon’s goalie locked it down. Eventually, the goals started to fall to seal the victory for PAX. The SMAC Championship did not go how they intended, but it is always an honor to be able to play in an important game like that to end the regular season.

These girls had some amazing playoff wins; winning the Regional Championship over Southern 5-0 and then going on to beat Middletown 2-1 to send this wonderful program to the State Semifinals. Semis was most definitely the most memorable game of this field hockey season. They played Fallston, and when I say play.... they played. Coming back from a 1-0 deficit to tie it in the first quarter and then coming back from a 3-1 deficit in the fourth quarter to make it 3-3, the Panthers were able to force the game into overtime. The girls held on, making the game go into double overtime. As much as they fought, Fallston ended up scoring, winning the game. Although this game ended in a loss, anyone could tell that this team put their blood, sweat, and tears into this entire game. The seniors will be extremely missed next year, but they went out leaving everything on that field and everyone played one heck of a game.

Player Q&A: Junior Midfielder Addie Furl
How did you play this year bouncing off an injury?
“I am trying not to pay any mind to my injury and just keep going without letting it hold me down. There is nothing to lose, so I just put 100% of what I have into my play despite coming back from an injury that is hard to recover from, but I’m doing it, and I am doing it hard without slowing down.”
Player Q&A: Senior Defender Rhyan Dunbar
What goals did you have for the field hockey season?
“My goals for the season were to be a leader that my teammates could count on and help others realize just how much they are capable of. A lot of my career I struggled with confidence which set me back at times. Having a good work ethic is important, but believing in yourself is crucial for success.”

Senior Spotlight: Katelyn Goss
The first time Katelyn Goss picked up a stick was freshman year. With her skills and being super athletic, she picked it up extremely fast and was then playing on varsity. She has been on varsity all four years, and a starter for about 3 of those years, while also starting a few games her freshman year. She is the center forward and she is one of our top goal scorers. This year she made the All-State team and had an amazing season. She helped lead our team to victory against Southern, dodging all those bulldogs and scoring goals. She made the 1st team all SMAC last year, and also this year. Katelyn Goss is an inspiration to the up-and-coming players for the Patuxent Field Hockey team.
